DAAS + GAR * Live Painting In Deland On 1/29/09

That’s right campers.. This utter rarity of occurrence, and real-time synergistic creative act is going on Thursday Night / January 29th, 2009 from about 8PM - 12AM ish at Caffe daVinci’s in Deland, Florida.

The American painter by way of Osaka, Japan called DAAS is only on this side of the great orb for a short bit per annual planetary orbit. -So he and myself planned on making the most of it, and we’ve put together an ample-sized 8ft x 4ft masonite surface to paint on in front of all who wish to see. This surface is firmly attached to a wooden framed backing, and is smoother than a baby’s backside. We may also be enlarging video’d close-ups of us painting, through a projector for a greater cerebral and ocular enjoyment. The finished w3rk will also be put up for sale upon completion or at a later date/group show in the daVinci’s gallery.

And so now it’s on like Donkey Kong! Please come check out what is sure to be a highly memorable evening and surely a one of a kind piece of artw3rk. Which is going to come to life right before your eyes by two of the most talented contemporary painters to ever come out of the sunshine state. I’ll also be DJing stellar tunes and grooves to paint, chill, and party to all evening long. I’ve got an extra tasty playlist cue’d up especially for this one! Get it on baby!..

Don’t look back and say you missed this live painting event, if you have the opportunity to be there.

It’s gonna be sick.

Peace.

RIP - Charlie Cooper of Telefon Tel Aviv

Charlie Cooper, One 1/2 of the sublimely talented New Orleans/Chicago electronic group Telefon Tel Aviv has passed away on January 22, 2009 at the age of 31. Cause of death is unknown at this time. Mega sympathy goes out to his friends, family, and all who loved him.

Goodbye Charlie. Love and Light amigo. You will not be forgotten.

Travel Well - Matthew Gar BaiLey

Telefon Tel Aviv’s - “Sound In A Dark Room” from the Immediate Action EP is most definitely going on the “21 Most Beautiful Songs I’ve Ever Heard Mix Volume #4″. It is a magically beautiful song.. in every way. I am thankful that it exists.

Goodbye Nophi

Just wanted to take a moment to mourn the passing of a stellar little record label called:

Nophi Records (1998 - 2008 RIP)

*The end is solidified by the image of a dead unicorn at the bottom of a rainbow on the current Nophi website.

Meglo-Props to Randy Garcia for making it happen over at Nophi for the past 10 years. You guys put out quite a few great albums and managed to inspire quite a few people, such as myself, along the way.

I’m sure Mr. Garcia will be chasing new rainbows on other mythical creatures with his post rock project: The Nerd Parade and with his own solo electronical muzak projeKts. I know mine eYes and eaRs shall be peeled.

Love and respeKt - Matthew Gar BaiLey

Dan Deacon (live) w/ BIG Band Ensemble

I la la love this video/performance!! Mr. Dan Deacon is up to his usual high energy hi jinx, but this time with oodles of associates, percussionists, and session musicians from the Baltimore area helping him out. Please be patient as “Snookered” builds from a synthy drone groove into a full-fledged future primitive poly-rhythmic master piece of production, percussion, and kinetic energy. Notice how the crowds’ applause after the first track is in some kind of crazy cadence. Almost as though they are additional percussionists involving themselves in to the performance as well. Magical stuff fur sure. Props to Dan Deacon, all the musicians, and to Pitchfork TV for bringin’ it to us.
