Video: Squarepusher - “Planet Gear”

Pretty cool new video/imagery which was made by Tom Jenkinson aka Squarepusher himself. Originally created as a visual accompaniment for use at live shows with the music off of his new album.

Video: Chris Cunningham’s - “Rubber Johnny”

For those unaware, this is one of the more profound and proficient short format video maker’s of our time. -Chris Cunningham is really in a master class of his own. Since the 1990’s, he has w3rked his pixelated magic on quite a few ground-breaking musicians. -Bjork, Squarepusher, & Portishead just to name a few. The musical video below, “Rubber Johnny“, is one of Cunningham’s crowning achievements IMO, and took 4 years to complete.  The auditory w3rk in the video is entitled: “afx237 v7 (w19rhbasement remix)” & by none other than Aphex Twin. (One of Cunningham’s favorite recipients/victims of his contemporary craftsmanship.)

*Warning! This video is not for the timid or the faint of heart.

Big News - Hairy Sloth Records LiVes!!

So this it folks.  Through the vision, diligence, and hard work of Myself, Eric Marden, Brian Cunningham, Dana Bailey and a few close supporters of GARism..

..My very own vehicle to promote the musical arts has arrived!:

hairy Sloth temporary logo

Hairy Sloth Records is my own fresh take on musical distribution and propagation.  My own music label to do what, when, with, & whom I please.  I’m wanting Hairy Sloth to be an innovative multi-media destination for artists and by artists, but also for all of the underground art/music lovers from around the w3rld.  And besides cataloging and sharing my own musical output through HSR.  I am also devoted to shining lights where they need to be shone.  There’s too many great talents out there withering away from the lack of light.  The absence of support.  The absence of an audience.  An artist as an empty hole where there should be a tree. In that regard, I have become a farmer of artists.  And I’m here to grow a small forest.

Hairy Sloth Records won’t be able to save the world, or to save Florida even.  But for whatever it’s worth, we will damn sure take a shot at saving a few gifted musicians from a life of underutilized potential.   I want to enhance the ability of a few talented individuals to spread their wings.  Hopefully give them an accessible platform to explore the idea of making records with actual destinations.  And with the earnest ideal, of making those albums on their own terms and of their own volition.

In further good news.. All of the MP3s on Hairy Sloth are currently offered for free, with an option for folks to donate if they choose.  More specifically but w/o going into too many specifics, any donations will then be used to first, pay the web hosting fees.. after which all immediate funds will be put into pressing CD’s, and eventually Vinyl and DVD.  The proceeds of which, or the actual merch itself, will then be split evenly between the artist and the label.  This is the basic idea of how the label will work.  Trying to keep it as simple as possible.  For the time being, we are more than happy just to have a place of our own to offer up our musical babies in the MP3 format.  -High quality 320k Mp3s which are licensed through the Creative Commons Acts.

Also, I still do plan on working with Polyvibe Records in varied capacities. One of them being to promote past and future recordings on that label.  Polyvibe did and does great w3rk.  (My 2nd album/CD, “Reinventing The Orange“, is still available for 6$ on P-vibe for those who may have missed it the first go round.)  But as far as me being an artist with the kind of output and idealism that I do, and the amount of artists out there with no viable means of releasing their work.  I just felt it was time to take it to the next step, and take true control my own destiny.  And thus we have, and I’ll say & link it again:

Hairy Sloth Records!

There are currently 2 hot-ass releases available for DL on the HSR website:

- A_Scissors - “Faster” ep [SLOTH001]

- alGARhythm - “Additional Oranges” ep [SLOTH002]

- We’re also working on a compilation of local artists called: “The Central FLaw In Us All Comp - Vol. #1

2009 Releases, so far:
- Dr. XnLb
- alGARhythm vs A_Scissors ep
- Drone Operator
- Adrian Taylor
- Mr. Antonym
- Engine Heart

Possibly Maybe Releases 09′:
- Nigel ManPerson?
- Kalx?
- Mic Mell?
- Tel Aviv Bats?
- The Rules?

There’s a pretty endless pile of artist’s music that I’d love to get on Hairy Sloth.  Whatever the capacity: Full LPs, EP’s, Compilation tracks, or even just individual MP3s. Which ever way the wind blows, but it all has to be bangin’ like a gong on the Gar bailey scale of bad-assery.

Please remember to spread the good w3rd about the birth of Hairy Sloth records to all your homepeople.  See you all real soon, apologies for the novel but sometimes a few sentences just don’t cut it.  Tater Totz.

his myspace page.

He’s also one of the few cats that I know personally, who truly pushes me to take my own drum machine aRt and explorations to the next level.  Look for some new alGARhythm tracks to go up later this Summer, but in the mean time mosey on over to Mr. Scissors’s page, and be one of the first to DL and listen to the revolutional evolutionalz for yerself.   His tunes are so beautifully bangin’ that I had to spread the good w3rd.

Catch ya on the flipside - gaR

Video: alGARhythm!->Live at Avant GARism #5

Embedded below this message are 2 of my favorite clips from my recent daVinci’s performance as a part of the event:
Avant GARism #5.

Videos of the show:
alGARhythm - Live at Avant GARism #5 (entire set)

Unfortunately, this will most likely be the last Avant GARism occasion held in downtown Deland at Caffe daVinci.  A sincere thank you goes out to caffe daVincis for giving this event a chance, and perhaps even greater than that.. a solid footing to branch out from in the future. And though the support that we did receive from patrans over the past 6 months was decent. This past event being exceptionally sweet, with almost every seat in the courtyard filled.  *In the bitter end.. it was not quite enough support to garner further Avant GARism events being held in Deland.  I would definately like to thank all the special artists that came out and played their heARTs out for the all the wonderful folks who came out to hear and see these recepticals of transecendance. We did take a good shot at bringing the underground to Deland.. too bad that perhaps deland wasn’t quite ready for it yet.

So it is quite fitting that we went out with such a bang on May 3rd, 2008. Nathan Wolek, then Benny Loco, followed by myself: alGARhythm brought honest, muzikal heat in each of our performances of our own respective, electronic sub-genres. I am also stoked that the majority of this was caught on video!! (Look for some Nathan Wolek & Benny Loco footage in the near future.) Big big thanx to Mr. A_Scissors Cunningham and Sir Drone Operator for helping me out with the video stuff, relocating gear, friendship in general, and for putting up with my occasional, grumpy, anxiety fits. You guys rock it hard nails sonz. So without further delinquince, enjoy the stellar footage of my performance below.

Always - alGARhythm BaiLey

Video: alGARhythm - “Anaconda Feathers”

This is a lo-fi video that eYe made the other day after I spotted some light dancing through a window. The music is a portion of the the alGARhythm track entitled: “Anaconda Feathers”. Released on Polyvibe records, back in early 2007. On the ol’ “Reinventing the Orange” baby!

PS - New alGARhythm muzak coming this year,

With Live Audio & Video performances by an all Volusia county local cast:

Nathan Wolek - “Nathan Wolek is an audio artist and researcher whose work encompasses advanced signal processing techniques, multimedia performance, audio installation art, and electronic music history.  He is also a full-time faculty member at Stetson University in DeLand, FL who teaches courses within the Digital Arts program and oversees the Music Technology major.

Benny Loco & Uncle Abuelito - A one time pupil of Mr. Wolek.   Benny Loco is bright spot on the burgeoning West Volusia underground electronic music scene.  This kat is on the way up, and has been demonstrating this fact with a bunch of successful, local performances and DJ sets recently.  Come catch him doin his software/hardware hybridisation at AG #5 before he is off building musical rainbows in some other magical land.

alGARhythm - Resident weirdo shaman of multiple genres, and the mastermind behind the Avant GARism spectacle of live, innovative audio/video.  Gar will be armed with a fresh batch of circuit bent toys, a new video projector, and a pile of fresh content for your voyeuristic pleasures.

Dan Deacon - Profile, Video, & Free MP3s (*6 albums worth)

So turns out, that the ever-creative: Dan Deacon is even more prolific than I originally thought.  He is now offering free downloads of 6 of his albums…
http://www.dandeacon.com/mp3  -(Click  on the album, then right click, & “save target as” to DL the individual tracks)
Pretty generous of him, me thinks.  Cuz hey.. free music is the best kind, right?
Thanx for the free-ness and continued ingenuity Dan.

“Dan Deacon is a furry ball of imagination and childlike wonder. In his world, convention is thrown out a 20th-story window and beaten with a bright red plastic hammer.  Dan uses electronic gizmos, keyboards, and stuff he found in the trash to create amusing and confusing sounds, blended with absurd lyrics about undersea racing and feline entrepreneurs.  He is also a classically trained composer.” -Taken from Mr. Deacon’s LastFM Bio
